Currently available on Whatsapp Messenger, version 2.23.10.8 (beta)

WhatsApp users have long sought after this feature that helps with unknown or spam calls,  to get another useful feature. The feature located under the ‘Privacy’ section in WhatsApp > Settings, lets a user mute calls from unknown phone numbers. Calls from these numbers will still show up in the ‘Calls’ tab and also notifications.

The number of spam calls on Whatsapp has been growing exponentially. With users being harassed by Spam calls, and worse, phishing scams. While it is not clear whether this may also apply to video calls, it will definitely come as a huge relief - given the volume of such unwanted calls.

To activate this feature, open Whatsapp Messenger, go to Settings, Privacy, as shown below

Whatsapp > Settings > Privacy

Now, enable the Calls option > Silence unknown callers

Whatsapp > Settings > Privacy - Silence unknown calls

As seen in the screenshot, unwanted unknown callers are now silenced via the toggle, under WhatsApp settings in the Privacy section. Note, that when the toggle is enabled, unknown call notifications will still display in the calls tab of the app and in the notification centre too.

Admin review - let users report inappropriate messages on group chat

Another new WhatsApp feature helps users control their group chat experience. This feature will prove to be immensely useful - dubbed ‘Admin review’,  it lets users report inappropriate messages in a group chat to the group admin.

When a group members reports a particular message as inappropriate, the message will be forwarded to the group admins for their review, a decision can then be taken on whether there is a need to delete the message for everyone in the group.
